Freedom in some abstract, or political, sense is clearly not essential to the happiness of a woman. Her happiness depends rather on doing as she wants to do, and being as she wants to be, most deeply. Important, too, one supposes, is the acceptance, even approval, of this modality by the environing culture or society.
