We had been all, in our various ways, secured with typical Gorean efficiency. From where we knelt we could see the remains of the well, about forty yards away. It seemed to rise up from a small meadow, rather at the left side of the meadow. The meadow, which was very beautiful, sloped gently down and away from us, mostly to the right, and was generally bordered by trees. There were more trees rather behind us, and to the left, trees which, from their size, had probably been there for years, antedating, and surviving, the structure, now in ruins, before which we were tied. The whole place, judging from the condition of the meadow, where the grass was sometimes very high, and the trees across from us, smaller and wilder, had probably been abandoned for years.
