"Few are permitted within a city's walls, save for male silk slaves, the pets of free women, and they make poor draft beasts, and we are cheaper than bosk and tharlarion". I was not popular with the other girls, even more so than is common with "barbarians," I feared, doubtless because of my obvious superiority to them, in both beauty and intelligence.
