How was I so different from she? Take away her abundant, colorful, glorious robes and veils, every last stitch and thread of her clothing, and brand and collar her, and own her! Would we not then be the same, nothing, only slaves? Yet what a mighty social chasm now separated us, the oceans and continents, the skies and earths, that separate the slave from the free!
