I suspected that that, if nothing else, would have infuriated the arrogant beauty, to be treated so casually, so routinely, so indifferently. I was now reasonably sure that Adraste was not the former Lady Julia Leta of Ar, given my adventure in the delta as the slave of he who spoke of himself as Bruno of Torcadino. The metal monster in the delta, the talk of recruiting men, of the gathering of equipment and the accumulation of resources, and the presence of Pa-Kur, of the Assassins, suggested an enterprise and project far more important and weighty than the mere capture of a lovely, embezzling thief from Ar's Street of Coins. So I supposed that the identity of Adraste was other than that of the former Lady Julia Leta of Ar. It must be that of someone far more important. Though the thought alarmed me greatly, I might have been tempted to fear that she might actually be the former Talena of Ar, the fabulous, bitterly sought, widely sought, long-sought, treasonous Ubara of Ar.
