I inferred two likelihoods given this information, one encouraging and the other considerably less so. First, and heartening, it seemed that Archelaos recognized the suspicious nature of openly maintaining a large number of armed men in the vicinity of Sybaris, many of a presumably unsavory sort. Would this not elicit curiosity? Might it not seem to require an explanation? Who are these men and what might be their purpose or purposes? This suggested that Archelaos might not be invulnerable in Sybaris.
